The EverLit Society Unveils Its Inaugural Cohort and Kicks Off Maiden Creative Writing Workshop

The EverLit Society, a multidisciplinary community of creatives committed to fostering personal development, social change, and cultural transformation, is thrilled to announce its inaugural cohort of talented artists selected for its maiden creative writing workshop.

As a vibrant community of artists, writers, and thinkers, The EverLit Society aims to provide a platform for creatives to explore innovative ways of storytelling, promote social awareness, and inspire positive change. Launched publicly on February 22nd with the theme “Social Sculpturing: An Artistic and Literary Perspective,” the society has already begun to make waves in the literary scene.

The EverLit Society is led by a team of dedicated founding members, each bringing their unique perspective and expertise to the table:

– Ishola Abdulwasiu Ayodele: A creative writer, visual artist, and educator with a passion for mysticism and psychology.

– Mhembeuter Jeremiah Orhemba: A Tiv and Nigerian writer with a strong background in flash fiction and creative non-fiction.

– Shedrack Opeyemi Akanbi: A writer and dreamer from North-Central Nigeria, and a Literary Arts MFA candidate at Brown University.

– Ola W. Halim: A 2022 fellow of the Literary Laddership for Emerging African Authors, with a strong portfolio of published works.

– Haruna Solomon Binkam: A writer and medical doctor from Jos, Nigeria, with a passion for creative non-fiction and short stories.

After a rigorous selection process, four exceptional writers have been chosen to participate in this intensive two-week program designed to hone their craft and push the boundaries of their storytelling. The cohort comprises:

  • Azubuike Obi, an Igbo storyteller with a passion for the transformative power of language
  • Nwajesu Ekpenisi, a 2024 Fellow of the SprinNG Writing Fellowship with a focus on exploring themes of family bond, trauma, and mental health
  • Anthony Chibueze Ukwuoma, a writer from Orlu, Nigeria, whose works delve into the nuances of rural lives
  • John Ebute, a medical student and writer whose works have appeared in various publications, including Brittle Paper and Eunoia Review

Under the guidance of Shedrack Opeyemi Akanbi, the cohort will explore the power of structure in storytelling. Through a combination of lectures and discussions, these writers will gain a deeper understanding of how to harness the power of structure to elevate their narratives.

The EverLit Society’s creative writing workshop has already kicked off, marking an exciting milestone in the organization’s mission to foster personal development, social change, and cultural transformation through the arts.
